This week is like a return to the 1980s with both Madonna and Lionel Richie topping the Billboard 200 album chart with their latest albums. Madonna chalked up her eighth No. 1 album with MDNA, and Richie ranked number two with his countrified Tuskegee, a collection of his classic tunes performed as duets with some of today’s hottest country stars.
But there was no rivalry between the two as they battled it out for the top spot, only love, as demonstrated through yesterday’s Twitter exchange.
The former neighbors created a lively discussion showing genuine affection and familiarity with each other.
@MadonnaMDNAday There is no one I would rather be on top with. Congratulations!! I am so happy for you.

@MadonnaMDNAday Do I remember?!?! … The only problem I had is when I came out of my house the fans would ask me where you live? (cont’d)

@MadonnaMDNAday I was the tour guide for the street. The neighborhood was never the same after you left.

@MadonnaMDNAday Hell no!! I moved out right behind you. The street wasn’t exciting anymore…

Madonna’s most recent number one album was Hard Candy from 2008. Richie’s last time topping the charts was in 1986 when his song “Dancing On The Ceiling” spent two weeks at No. 1 on a different chart, the Hot 100 singles chart.
